2010 was a very successful year for the Bath Half, with a record turn out and fantastic weather. Many of you were kind enough to write to us expressing your thanks for which we are very grateful
Organising a mass-participation event on the public highway, using temporary structures in English weather will always be challenging. We are aware of shortcomings and areas for further improvement. We have listened carefully to all the views and comments received in feedback, we thank everyone who took the time to complete our post race survey
We are keen to continue to make progress in raising standards and consistency in delvery of the event, building on the success of last year's race. With this in mind a number of further measures are proposed :
ENTRIES MANAGEMENT
We are introducing a new entries registration, management and communication system and merchandise procurement for next year's Bath Half designed to improve the service we can offer to race entrants, in posting out race packs, and for our race results. We apologise to those of you who got sent the wrong post-race questionaire this year
START BAYS
Many of you were held up at the start by slower runners starting ahead of you. We seed runners according to their predicted finish time. We will be reviewing how we allocate race numbers to specific start bays, but at the end of the day we have to rely on the honesty - and common sense - of entrants declaring realistic predicted finish times
VENUE ARRANGEMENTS
We will be reviewing arrangements for the women's toilets in the Runners Village to reduce the queue length.
ENTERTAINMENT
Many of you said you liked the new entertainment points around the course, so we will make sure we provide a few more next year
For safety reasons - with our 2-lap course - we will be continuing our ban on ipods
PEDESTRIAN ROUTES
Although the revised arrangements for pedestrian routes were significantly improved this year, we we will be revising pedestrian routes around the venue and access routes into the start bays to further reduce bottlenecks and delay for both competitors & spectators
POST FINISH MANAGEMENT
Although arrangements were significantly improved this year, we will be revising arrangements to further reduce congestion and delay through the post-finish, de-chipping and goody bag areas, and in the distribution of foil blankets. We will also be provide additional first aiders in the post-finish area
PARKING & BUS SERVICES
We are in discussion with the council's public service operators to provide further additional bus services at the Park & Ride sites this year, and with private sector operators - such as Bath Racecourse - to identify further additional parking facilities
TRAIN SERVICES
Some of you told us that trains after the event were very crowded, so we will also be talking to First Great Western to see if further additional train services can be provided for competitors and spectators
Further improvements are in the pipeline and we are always happy to consider constructive proposals from any of our entrants or event partners
