Golden Oldies

RUN FOR GOLDIES!!!

The Golden-Oldies Charitable Trust work with older people across the South West, many of whom are living in isolation. The Golden-Oldies offer fun singing sessions where elderly people can come together to sing the popular hits of the 50s, 60s and 70s with songs from Cliff Richard, Elvis, Dusty Springfield and Tom Jones! The weekly singing sessions give people something to look forward to and encourage the making of new supportive friendships through having a good ol’ sing song.

The Golden-Oldies Charitable Trust was launched in the Bath and North East Somerset area in January 2008 by well known Choir Leader Grenville Jones who took 4 initial singing sessions for older people in this area. Only four years on, Goldies now run over 50 singing sessions across BANES, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Bristol and more recently South Wales and Wiltshire, bringing much joy to hundreds of lonely and isolated older people.

George from one of our Swindon session tells us;

“It’s helped me get my voice back. We sing the good old songs we know. It’s such good fun, we have a laugh and a joke, if only the time didn’t go so quickly. The people that come here thoroughly enjoy it and they sing their hearts out, it makes the week for us. It sure beats being stuck in all the time just watching the television.”
